What is a P and C?
The P and C Association is a school-based, incorporated, not for profit organisation, registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), with membership open to parents, teachers, students and interested citizens.
What does the P and C do?
The P and C works both with and through the school to provide opportunities for your children and the children in your care.
We provide services for the school and fundraise for additional school facilities and equipment. The funding that the school receives from the Department of Education (DoE) can only go so far, and of course the school must prioritise essential learning. The P and C aims to fill some of the gaps that cannot be funded by the DoE as well as building our school community into a supportive and fun adjunct. Generally, the P and C at Newport Public School:
- Manages the canteen
- Manages the uniform shop
- Assists the music committee. Music is run by a separate committee
- Runs stalls, such as for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas
- Conducts other fundraising and social activities
- Encourages parent participation in the education of their child/ren by fostering an open communication style at regular meetings, to which parents and school representatives attend
Purpose of Fundraising
Fundraising, in addition to the P and C levies itemised on your school term accounts, supports the P and C to provide the following to the school community:
- funding for additional teaching resources
- purchasing of teaching aids such as "Smart-boards"
- additions and improvements to the school facilities
- additions and improvements to the school sporting facilities
- participation in school decision making processes
- promoting social gatherings
- supporting the needs of parents and carers
Volunteering
The activities managed by the P and C are only possible with the continued support of parents, carers, teachers and community members.
The P and C is largely a volunteer-based association. Volunteers are essential. We are always on the lookout for volunteers to assist in the canteen, the uniform shop or with a fundraising or social event.
Should you wish to participate in any way, either in an ongoing capacity or just as a one-off, please click the button below which will open an email to our fundraising team.
Please include your full name and contact details and an indication of how you can assist us. We are very grateful!
P and C Meetings
The P and C meetings are informal gatherings where parents and teachers may discuss the operation of the school. The Principal and other school executives and teachers attend and provide timely updates delivered in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Class Parents attend (or send a proxy) to represent the interests of the class they represent.
Importantly there are times where all meeting attendees may vote on various initiatives which are funded, in whole or in part, by the P and C. Without your vote at these meetings, projects may be delayed.
The P and C will communicate the agenda prior to each meeting, and you are welcome to submit items for discussion (please see below).
Newport Public School P and C meetings are held once in Term 1 and twice per term for Terms 2, 3 and 4. Meeting invitations are emailed with an agenda and we endeavour to provide as much notice as possible. Meeting dates can be found on the school calendar on this website and, if time permits, is included in the Natter (the school newsletter).
All parents and carers are welcome to attend. Voting is open to all those who have paid their membership levy (which is included on the school term account).
We welcome submissions from parents, carers, teachers and the wider community for our meeting agendas. Should you wish to make a suggestion or raise an issue, please click the button below.
Minutes are circulated via email after each meeting.
