About us

Newport outside of school hours care (NOOSHC) provides essentials, convenient, quality before and after school care on-site, enabling parents/carers to work, undertake study/training or other activities, with the knowledge that their children are well cared for in a healthy and happy environment.

Before and after school activities include art/craft, board games, indoor and outdoor activities. Year 3 to 6 have a quiet period following afternoon tea for homework (reading or board games, if they do not have homework).

Afternoon tea is provided and children are offered a nutritious, healthy variety of foods for example fruit; hummus, cheese and crackers, chicken nuggets; muffins, nachos, spring rolls etc. The menu is on display. Breakfast is not provided, but please feel free to provide this for your child if you have an early start. Children may eat breakfast at NOOSHC until 8am. Common allergens like nut products are excluded from the afternoon tea menu and must not be bought into the centre at any time.

Our centre manager, Jo Newton, has over 30 years experience working with children.  She is responsible for the day-to-day management of the centre, ensuring that there is a wide range of activities for all age groups. Our educational leader, Brooke Lytham (a certified supervisor/responsible person) heads up the program and is assisted by an experienced team of child educators.  Their aim is to create a pleasant environment for children to relax before and after school each day and to provide activities similar to those they would engage in at home. Staff members hold a first aid/asthma/anaphylaxis certificate and certified supervisors hold child protection training.

Who can attend

All children who attend Newport Public School are entitled to enrol to use the service. Enrolments are essential, even if you are looking for casual days. Bookings are essential so that we can arrange for the centre to be staffed appropriately each day, according to the number of children using the service. Parents must register and enrol their children prior to using the service – this applies to both permanent and casual bookings.  There are limited casual positions.  Please ring the centre prior to your child attending to ensure that there is a position available.

We aim to create an open, two-way flow of information with families through:

  • notice boards
  • parent communication book,
  • e-mails and verbal communication
  • our suggestion box
  • daily reflections program
  • parent surveys
  • school newsletter

Fee assistance

Fee assistance for child care rebate and child care benefit are available for eligible families. It is important that you register with the Department of Human Services.

Parent management committee

NOOSHC (non profit) incorporated association has been operating at Newport Public School since 1994. The running of the centre is overseen by a voluntary parent management comittee (approved provider) and a paid bookkeeper.

NOOSHC has an open door policy, our centre can be visited at any time.
